In all my hours of one-on-one coaching I have often found that people think they will succeed if they just keep going. However if we want to achieve success we may need to make some adjustments. As Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”
This blog post focuses on how you can redirect your path, become resilient and bounce back no matter what life throws your way. People get knocked down so many times, some have a capacity to get up again, while others implode or disintegrate so how can you be sure you will be the one who will bounce back?
I had a friend who was going through a traumatic divorce. I could see he was overwhelmed by pain, turmoil and depression. So I was pleased when I received an email from him saying, “I have fallen, but I’ve got up again, and life is once again meaningful for me.”
I put this down to the power of resilience. Studies have shown that each person on earth has a built-in tenacity or resilience in their being. This means we have an inherent ability to bounce back when failure happens.
However many people are unable to work through reality, while keeping their dreams alive. Without positives and negatives in life we live in a fool’s paradise. The only way to live is to be realistic. This creates an inner resourcefulness we all need. The ability to pay attention to the realities we face in life in order to survive and overcome the challenges we face in life.
There are those who live deeply from the spiritual centres and others that live by quoting glib formulas and singing happy tunes, hoping that the pain and whatever the issue is will go away. So that they can live happily ever after. However the truth sets us free.
So many people would rather deny the issues they face, choosing delusions instead of facing up to things. In the most impossible situations in life we must never deny the facts or the physical realities. We have to embrace reality, however we all have an ability to live beyond the facts, be resilient and bounce back.
A friend of mine who lost his leg in a painful accident, was prepared to give himself time to grieve the loss of his limb and the health that he once had. However he never gave up on his dreams. Instead he redefined them giving himself the power to reencounter his future in a different way. Yes he did have to adapt and get used to a prosthetic leg but that didn’t stop him from playing sport. In fact, I had the time of my life, trying to beat him in a game of squash.
Start to bounce back today!
Trust in your ability and inner resolve to bounce back now. This is one of the greatest lessons a person can learn in life. We all have to let go of denial, blame games, excuses, delusion etc that affect our thinking. Let go of all of that and press on with your goals!
